This realization of Alvin Lucier's I Am Sitting in a Room was completed at the Center for Contemporary Music under the guidance of Lucier's technical assistant, James Fei, by Mills’ Sound Art (Jefferson Doyle, Maryzelle Ungo, Kristian Dahlbom, Stephanie Lister, Nina Lockshin, Angela Edwards, Grace Lyer, and Kyle Bates).
The piece was realized during the Covid-19 pandemic. As such, each recapture of the initial vocal recording (my own voice) was completed in a separate room, the spaces from which we attended our online video meetings. Each room had a unique set of resonant frequencies, which resulted in an interesting take on the score that would have not occurred under non-pandemic conditions.
